This week's Arcade Archives is Taito's Balloon Bomber from 1980. Use your cannon and blast the bombs being carried by balloons, but aim carefully- hit the balloon and the bomb's coming down, destroying part of the platform or you!

Kinkmemes! Despite the name, I usually saw a wide variety of gen to explicit stuff being asked for and then filled. I saw them more on Dreamwidth but they were definitely on livejournal too.

This is the really important point for me: alternative user-funded, ad free social media sites exist.
Dreamwidth is *17 years* old.
Pillowfort is over 10 years old.
User-funded social media are not doomed to have flash-in-the-pan brief lives, they just need support.

For the very basic sign up -> make posts, Dreamwidth is super easy. The things you need to do to stylize your blog are not the easiest or most user-friendly (though not like master-class difficult, either). I'd vote wordpress.com if the stylization matters!

If you were ever on LJ and liked the vibe of that, Dreamwidth is a thing. I'm so technology resistant/ anxious that that would be my move if I ever started doing it again.

This exists! It's not an app but... man the kids don't know about Dreamwidth anymore and that makes me sad :(
I feel like most of the stupid character ai chats craze could be avoided if there was something like a dating app but instead of dating it's freaky rp finder to keep some semblance of anonymity at least at first ☕

Dreamwidth is definitely still a going concern, and seems likely to stay so over the foreseeable future. I used to have a blog via Wordpress dot com (and I suppose technically still do, I never actually deleted it). The interface for both is via a normal web browser, no Unix-ish faffing needed

I used to keep a diary page on DreamWidth which felt very retro, quiet and friendly but as like most things I let it slide until I stopped even thinking about it any more. But you can write as much as you like on there and even keep it totally private too. It's still going too which is nice to know!
