the youth yearn for livejournal and dreamwidth
Social media and the like should let you have a dropdown of different profile pics representing various emotions so you can easily tone-tag your posts like an RPG textbox avatar

Dusted off my dreamwidth account. Wow, takes me back (I closed my live journal around 2006-2008?).
Anyone here on dreamwidth?

I just got the terrible news that one of our most active contributors from the early days of Dreamwidth has passed away. Next time you use Dreamwidth, please think of Dre, who built an incredible amount of the backend code still in use, and who has left the world a little less for her passing.

Thrilled to announce that Dreamwidth has joined Netchoice AND THEY'RE GONNA LET ME FIGHT MORE STATE GOVERNMENTS. dw-news.dreamwidth.org/43389.html

Okay, I will preface this with the GIGANTIC disclaimer that I promise I know how this looks, and I *swear* this is not personally motivated: If you have an old #LiveJournal account, and it has things you still care about in it, download it or import it to Dreamwidth SOON. Details:

(For the record, Dreamwidth has never been contacted by anyone looking to license our text corpus, but if we were, our answer would be "no, and also fuck you.")

I started posting on livejournal (later dreamwidth) 24 years ago today! That's...a lot of years!

This is also why Dreamwidth has been fighting these bills in the US state by state with Netchoice (and soon, with Chamber of Progress; we just joined them, too) with everything I have in court, because they are a terrible fucking idea.

I'm so serious that we should all go invade dreamwidth and make accounts and communities and start live journaling again

The news post we really didn't want to write: starting 1 September, we will need to temporarily block IP addresses from Mississippi from accessing Dreamwidth for legal reasons. We are so very sorry. More info: dw-news.dreamwidth.org/44429.html

anyway for everyone who's nostalgic for LiveJournal, come hang out on Dreamwidth, we aren't owned by the state bank of Russia

Sign up for DreamWidth because it drives @rahaeli.bsky.social nuts if she thinks it's becoming culturally relevant
I feel I'm morally obliged to mention Dreamwidth here - LJ clone without ads or data scraping - is still very much going strong

Thanks to Mississippi’s sweeping age verification law, residents just lost access to Bluesky and Dreamwidth. These mandates don’t rein in Big Tech—they entrench it. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Age Verification Is A Windfall for Big Tech—And A Death Sentence For
If you live in Mississippi, you may have noticed that you are no longer able to log into your Bluesky or Dreamwidth accounts from within the state. That’s because, in a chilling early warning sign

(Dreamwidth has decided that we will argue to the death that we don't have "a significant number of UK users" if we have to. But we're fighty as fuck, and expecting sites to take on the risk of the associated civil and criminal penalties in enforcement is bonkers.)

Dreamwidth is a direct LiveJournal replacement without being owned by russian government or advertisers.

Thank you, Dreamwidth, for your policy on these matters.
