It may be partially that, others brought up the fact that the audience this caters to think DC is a crime-ridden hellhole with drivebys every day. Meanwhile the largely liberal contingent who actually lives in and around DC absolutely doesn't want to go to a fifth-rate event surrounded by assholes.

People also sometimes complain that I've "turned off comments" on my posts. Actually, anyone who follows me can comment. You can follow and comment and unfollow if you like; that's cool.
I limit comments to followers to prevent drivebys from trolls. It's not ideal, but it's a key safety tool here.

It is actually really frustrating how most of the most interesting artists to me are on twitter but i really cannot use it as an actual social site now, it’s honestly just not worth the ambient mental exhaustion of random drivebys by CP bots and autoplay videos of people getting stabbed in your FYP

1500ish (exclusively white?) people at our suburban MN protest. Couple drivebys from the city PD but that was it.
