Welt im Umbruch. Politikwissenschaft auch? 🌍 Text-as-data approaches definitely are: LLMs now code, classify and summarize political texts at a scale unimaginable a decade ago, albeit often without the validation standards we built over 25 years. #dvpw2027 @dvpw.bsky.social

Are you attending #DVPW Kongress in Leipzig in 2027?
CfP for our open panel "Illiberalism without borders? How authoritarian and extremist actors disseminate exclusionary narratives"

If your paper fits the panel description below, please apply with an abstract via meineDVPW before 31 October!
Abstract Classification: · Sektion Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft · AK Autokratie- und Extremismusforschung Abstract: Exclusionary narratives have proliferated with the rise of right-wing actors and the normalization of ideas formerly thought to be extremist within democracies. Illiberal ideas and frames are spread by authoritarian actors seeking to disrupt democracies. Authoritarian regimes also often leverage exclusionary narratives domestically, casting oppositional, ethnic, or religious groups as the “other”. While distinct in their scope, both illiberal and authoritarian practices overlap in their fight against voice or freedom of expression that deviates from their narratives. Discursive practices of othering, exclusion and silencing thus are key features linking extremist and authoritarian forces. While both (far-right) extremist discourses and othering under authoritarianism have attracted scholarly scrutiny, the similarities and connections of the different conditions of discourse production and reception remain underresearched. In this panel we seek to bring together research on discourses in authoritarian regimes and on extremism to investigate the interlinkages between these phenomena, as well as the variance in underlying patterns, causes, and dynamics. We expect authoritarian and extremist discourse strategies to be linked through processes such as learning, diffusion, or active promotion. The panel invites contributions that · theorize the interlinkages between extremism and authoritarianism · contribute to theoretical or methodological discussions on illiberal discourses · analyze empirical instances of the promotion or dissemination of narratives through authori tarian or extremist actor networks · compare exclusionary narratives between different arenas and audiences · trace the diffusion of exclusionary narratives between extremist and authoritarian contexts
