Stole the kids phone & then took it to an ECOATM. I get the feeling that the ICE agents are brokies doing this for the love of the game.
Yes, immigration agents not only took Arnoldo's phone, the 10th grader had to use Find My Phone to locate it — in a vending machine for used electronics, close to an ICE detention center.

Fair to assume it’s either been run over by an MRAP or has been stuffed into an ecoATM.
What happened to Pretti's phone and the recording he was presumably making?
IMO, someone should compile a clear video of the critical moments of this interaction, viewed from multiple angles: Pretti was filming from afar, he was approached by agents, he helped a woman who was pushed to the ground, he was attacked in the face with pepper spray, and then he was shot.

This is insane. I'm guessing they took his phone to an ecoATM, learned it needs to verify it was wiped (which it could not), and so took the "phone is dead" price and got maybe $5 for it. You have to give your id to get cash, so in a civil suit the kid can subpoena the ATM company for who sold it.

Good question. I just tried the "ecoATM" website and a working iphone15 128GB with "scuffs and scratches" is $105. Easy to imagine the kid had something less fancy/new than that

Good news is whoever turned that phone in is gonna never see the $$$ assuming this was an actual phone trade kiosk.
They require identification (including fingerprint) and associate phone info to it. Then the phone is held 30+ days for ownership checking vs. stolen IMEI database.

If it's one of those ecoATM machines I have seen someone go through the process and it requires you to show your face to match to your photo id that you also scan in. Their website says it's a live person that manually approves the transaction going forward.
