My recollection is that Nordhaus' model cited Broecker's model, which was tuned to Manabe's estimate of ECS. For all of the 60s and 70s, it was basically Manabe all the way down, as far as I can tell.

trying to coerce ECS into a general object/actor system is a really bad idea and is a complete misassessment of how to effectively use ECS/DOD in production. the industry has toyed with this idea for like 10+ years and has gotten nowhere with it because it is very debug-resistant
