10 years of Amazon ECS. It kicked off a lot of innovation in container management. One of the highlights was the introduction of Fargate, so there was no need any more for managing the underlying infrastructure. aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/ce...

❗ New: Predictive Scaling for Amazon ECS. This is seriously useful and powerful. ECS can now predict load based on usage patterns, and scale in anticipation. It works in parallel with target-tracking scaling, so your service still scales with spikes too.

Somehow managed to miss this announcement, but a cool new addition to Amazon ECS with express mode. Give ECS a container image, and it'll run it incorporating a bunch of best practices.

Does this spell the end of AppRunner? Who knows.

Predictive scaling is a BIG deal.

It's useful for ECS, but it's gonna be HUGE when they bring it to Lambda.

Just imagine not having to deal with cold starts because the platform proactively initializes new workers ahead of time.

That'd be the dream.

If you're thinking of leaving Heroku, here's a simple mapping:

If you want the easiest switch, go with Render.

If you want Docker and more flexibility, go with Fly.

If you want to be a sysadmin, use a VPS (don't need to scale) or Amazon ECS (do need to scale)
