for example; aurora tackles themes of femininity, motherhood, womanhood, (in some cases) religion. For me when i make decisions as small as gender it can completely alter how I write a character!!

Not really. She's experimented with mind-altering substances in hopes of better understanding the language of the Elementals, but it only turned her into a giggling, melty mess. 😂

RP-wise, Ely's concept has changed little in 3 years, though she has grown a bit. She started as more of a lady knight, but I've shed that part of her over time, and now she's a retired lady-knight turned traveling healer with an oath to never kill anyone ever again.
