#embedding
they're entirely explicit about it! do we not remember the kerfuffle a few weeks back about "embedding israeli military in the pentagon budget" merger thing? they're just trying to become a regular old expense like hegseth's steaks and lobsters

I thought we had the juice. It turns out we just had awkward video embedding.

You can sidle up to an argument that we should be cautious about embedding Chinese hardware / software in essential infrastructure (though, um, Starlink anyone?) but as an individual I am much more afraid of Google than I am of HUAWEI.

> In mid-twentieth-century Cyprus, fountains stamped with royal initials monumentalized “just enough” progress, embedding empire in everyday acts of drinking and pausing.

Powerful sentence. "Just enough" progress under imperialism.
> From women balancing clay jars at the village well to the cast-concrete fountains of British welfare schemes, these objects function as both technical artefacts and social mediators. The verbatim example of a crazy Trump speech is wild:
Gaffes and Men’s Bodies: Analysis of Trump’s Speeches at Age 80 (Gift Article)
A Times review of the president’s public speeches finds that he is more profane, more absolutist, longer-winded and less coherent than he was in 2016.

I actually think Ed hates me now for telling him that actually, no, American companies intentionally embedding themselves into people's 401Ks and the American defense infrastructure at a rapid pace will not be allowed to collapse overnight, that they will be bailed out. But the scam he sees is real.

bullshit is a social problem and LLMs are gonna need social embedding to do their best possible work here

i mean

we could probs incentivize it less other ways too but

relationships matter!

I do a lot of talks and workshops centering things like fostering student belonging, and embedding humane-ness and humanity into teaching and faculty life. There is a clear difference, depending on institutional type, in how (and whether) faculty believe they have the support to do those things.

There haven't been many efforts to attach text autoregression heads to text embedding bodies

really important to highlight, Google is lying through its teeth here

it's pulling the "any machine learning is AI" argument to imply that search can't possibly decouple from AI

when all anyone wants is to turn off the stupid lying box they keep embedding at the top, which means deleting one div
Shit like this really makes it clear that AI needs schools a lot more than we need it www.nytimes.com/2026/11/03/u...

Do you mean visualizing the embedding space of content (2d or 3d projection) and where your interests are in it?

Note, For You does not use embeddings to make recommendations since it is a graph based algorithm. But you could probably treat the adjacency matrix as a very large embedding space.

I gave a talk last night at DataPhilly on inference in production with ONNX and ONNXRT and the differences between generative and embedding architectures, and where both have a place in information retrieval systems, slides are here.

The wonderful DataPhilly meetup community asked me to come give a talk on any topic, and I talked for half an hour on embedding-based retrieval, machine learning model artifacts creation and inference...
