The wild thing is that I know from my day job that most of the TV industry is also crying out for a return to long season episodics and procedural shows. It's only streamers that don't want to create new ones, because every satisfying self-contained episode is an excuse to stop watching.

This is fascinating - from Michael Symmons Roberts’ book on Messiaen - and the division of people into Diachronics & Episodics. Like Isaiah Berlin’s fox & hedgehog, I think it’s a continuum … and despite seeing myself mostly as a Diachronic, I do think there are traits in my being that are Episodic.

kinda crazy that we got another Petermon already! though its role in this episode wasn't nearly as awesome as the Ghost Game ep- it made me remember that that series really did have some excellent episodics... there's only so much you can do with a mon like that, too. hmmmh...

YMMV. I prefer 22 episodics with an ongoing arc vs a 2HR movie stretched thin across 10 hours.
From both a storytelling avenue and a working screenwriter one. More eps. More work. More money.
But I’m glad we get more Trek even if it’s 10 episodes per season.

Yup, between WGA fees, plus whatever “packaging” fees the agency gets, episodics are far more lucrative to agencies than one-off features.

William Welch, a regular screenwriter of Irwin Allen episodics, wrote one of these ‘voices of the dead’ non-fiction books. He’s mentioned in the very unscientific Phone Calls of the Dead, so I think all these authors pooled their slim evidence across several tomes to try and consolidate a new genre.
