Please help us fight #Amazon! We are ACRES. A group in a small #Vermont town trying to keep these Goliaths out of our forest. Currently, we have a donor willing to match dollar for dollar up to $10k.

The board has paused public comment.

Currently there are 70 people in the room (including me). The room has a 66 person capacity. There are still people in the lobby.

[I entered because at least 2 people exited.]

Thinking that #Amazon building a distribution center in #VT will help create growth in Vermont’s economy and add jobs is like thinking that helping to tie the rope will get you a pardon from the executioner. 😵

Attending the #EssexVT Selectboard special meeting in person this evening. There is a concern that the Selectboard is considering a settlement with #Amazon Scannell Properties regarding the DRB denial of that application.

I will live post regarding this topic when the agenda item comes up. 🧵👇🏻

I've been going to Michelle Foley for haircuts since I moved back to VT. She keeps detailed notes on her clients and does a fantastic job managing my stubbornly curly hair

And check out that beautiful old hardwood flooring & fixtures in Essex Jct's historic downtown.

A very belated but heartfelt congratulations to Ace of Fades on their grand opening on Railroad St!

I hesitated to share this because they’re already so busy. Definitely plan ahead, as appointments can be hard to come by

They can call it ‘progress’ all they want, but it’s progress toward giving up our independence in favor of a billionaire’s insatiable greed.

I will continue to resolutely say, No #Amazon in Vermont! 👊🏻

So, Essex Select Board & #EssexVT residents: is that the kind of ‘progress’ we want in #VT?

Do we want to progress toward destroying our own community and exploiting our workers just so we can have cheaper junk delivered faster? 🤔

That we should embrace their low prices & faster fulfillment times. ‘It’s progress.’ And they’ll tell us that progress is good for #VT.

But we need to stop and ask, “progress toward what, exactly?”

Because from where I’m standing, an #Amazon distro center in #EssexVT is progress toward…

As Amazon tries to force the hand of the #EssexVT Select Board into settling, I’ve been thinking about what it’ll mean.

Their corporate lobbyists will tell us that change is inevitable & we should embrace their jobs. They’ll tell us an #Amazon distribution center is progress for #Vermont. 🧵 1/

One of the biggest layoffs in Amazon’s history—14,000 jobs gone.

They’re blaming “AI efficiency,” calling it the most transformative tech since the internet.

Translation: the machines are here, and they’re coming for middle-class jobs next. Maybe now people will start paying attention.

Essex drivers are on their bullshit again. Watched a car blast through the fully red light at Susie Wilson Rd & RT-15. And then I almost got crushed by a truck traveling in the turning lane on Pearl Street when I tried to use it to turn... less than 60 seconds apart. 🤬
