My normie/Evangelicalish catholic family thought it was really sus when I started wanting to go to the Latin mass and wear a veil and follow the Latin in a missal. They're all in on Trad stuff now though of course. Now that it is aligned socially with their worldview. 🙄

(the earlier pope did get raptured but only because he was considered the more evangelicalish pope to ever pope, as the book makes clear early on, so basically a loophole)

My aunt was a nun. She left the convent and became a teacher in a Catholic school. She came out as gay. In the past 30 years, she moved her way up until she was out, proud, and the head of the school. There are liberal orders, that this small sect of evangelicalish Catholics ignores.

Wait, I just thought of a way to explain it! The church the Simpsons go to. It’s a pop culture church. The pastor is some kind of mainline Protestant, Ned Flanders is a passionate evangelical, and the Simpsons themselves are… “Christian” which is basically evangelicalish but not SO into it.

Yeah I think it's a global conversation & that's just the weird older evangelicalish Christian women part of it. Everybody is more fascinated by someone else's corner of the world/history in weird/inaccurate ways

We also saw this kind of horseshit played out on smaller scales in evangelicalish churches and many of us either left the Faith altogether or found different homes. We were inoculated.
