Before visionOS and RealityKit, even before SwiftUI, in April 2019 I created an AR Reminders prototype using the tools available at the time. ARKit and UIKit rendering on the surface of SceneKit entities. All the data was pulled from my Reminders database via EventKit.

It just uses EventKit so the user doesn’t have to log in. As long as i am signed into a calendar account on their Mac i can use it in the app.

Apple's `EventKit` can be a pain to work with. There's specific logic that you need to make sure that you follow, so your app handles the permissions properly.
The easier way to do this is to wrap `EventKit` calls in a manager. #Swift #iOS

I actually think OpenAI will eventually ship features that natively integrate into iOS, macOS Android, etc. Similar to what you just experienced, it would not only be compelling but quite the hook to be mid-conversation and say “add this to my calendar”, and do so natively using APIs like EventKit.

For my alarmkit app I have in testing a helper that uses EventKit to make the calendars for the simulator during the tests.

I haven’t. I have been considering EventKit to import calendar events. Not to mention I’d like to make a calendar app as a companion to this todo app.

Apple should fix the EventKit API. Don't want to give apps full access to calendar or events, but I do want them to write AND update their events. Case in point, Lyft. #ios #iphone #developer

I’d love to built it into RMF natively, but I don’t think it’s possible today. EventKit doesn’t allow you to add these alarms to reminders, and AlarmKit gets part way there but it won’t stay in sync if you reschedule the reminder later.

Our Calendar MCP went from idea to running daemon in one day. One agent audited the code, wrote a Swift EventKit wrapper, set up SSE transport, registered it in the gateway. Now we can read our own calendar and reminders.

I spent weeks fighting with EventKit just to make a reminder feel like a system event rather than a loud app alert. Replicating that invisible utility of the native Birthdays calendar is a high bar, but it's the only way to make a utility feel native.
