This is the end stage evolution of rent seeking behavior.

Adjusting the Aperture: Decolonizing Time in Studies of Human Behavior and Evolution
Biological anthropology has long positioned foraging and often pastoralist populations as the most appropriate referent communities for the rigorous study of human behavior and evolution. With this, ...

First neurons didn’t appear overnight. We trace their roots to ancient secretory cells - showing how lifestyle & behavior shaped the evolution of first synapses.🧠🌊 #Evolution #Neuroscience

I am thrilled to start an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth College in July 2024. We will study genetic & neural basis of behavior evolution & how behavior affects evolution. Recruiting talented & enthusiastic scientists to join the lab!

This is a cool paper on the repeated evolution of a behavior that keeps ant colonies cohesive.
Using Bayesian neural networks and evolutionary modelling, we show that trophallaxis evolved twice in ants: 130 million years ago when flowering plants became more abundant and ants began harvesting sugary liquids from plants and their insect partners, and again in others ~90 million years ago.

[Known Issues]

We're aware of an issue in which the ongoing Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising Build & Battle Event is displaying inconsistent behavior, resulting in players either being unable to participate in the event or correctly complete a run.

I, for one, am grateful.

If not for #deviant behavior, there could be no evolution.

Without evolution, men would still be walking around swinging their big clubs to get whatever they want.

Oh, wait...

If it makes you feel better, within the sciences--at the time I was in an evolution/ecology/behavior dept--I know for a fact that one PI approached the DEI committee for the department requesting special mentoring for conservative student because he was afraid the student was feeling too ostracized.

Heard of the haplodiploid hypothesis (=¾ relatedness hypothesis)? It’s long been a staple of biology textbooks – you may’ve run into it in Intro Biology, Genetics, Evolution, or Behavior. It’s also been very influential on social evolution theory, yet surprisingly, it long remained untested.🧵
