Antwerp Team Reads Carbon Nanotube Spins At Room Temp
Triplet exciton spins can now be optically read out at room temperature, a leap from previous methods requiring chilling to 2. 5 K. Within single-walled carbon nanotubes, synthetically created defects trap these excitons while functioning as nanoscale proximity sensors under normal conditions.

The linked article is interesting but confusing. I took a university class called “quantum biology” (of photosystems) in 2003 or 2004. So the concept is hardly anything new. At best is has a revival. You cannot understand photosynthesis without quantum - i just explained excitons in my own class.

Join us Tuesday, October 27 at 11 AM PT for our seminar with Dr. Sandya Susarla of Arizona State University to discuss how electron microscopy lets us watch quasiparticles like excitons and ferrons, which could one day enable quantum sensors and low-power electronics. In person or via Zoom.

Polaritons, part light and part matter, showed quantum correlations in a tunable fiber cavity, their interactions depending unexpectedly strongly on the cavity-exciton detuning. By the authors' estimate, a decay rate 10 times lower would reach the strong polariton blockade regime. #quantum
Quantum correlations and dissipative blockade of polaritons in a tunable fiber cavity | Frontier
Cavity exciton-polaritons are quasiparticles that form when excitons in a semiconductor quantum well hybridize with the light mode of an optical cavity.
