This is high-quality extrapolation, worthy of your attention.

I suspect there is a lot of extrapolation from one’s own work experience to other domains being trafficked in the concept of “white collar” and “professional services” and to a lesser extent in “productivity”.

"Understanding" and "statistical extrapolation" *can* often lead to the same place, but when they *don't*, "understanding" provides a way forward, while "extrapolation" founders.

"radical leftist political beliefs" but it's just the most basic extrapolation of human decency into policy positions

Best extrapolation I've read yet. 10/10
These emails really do highlight why rich folk are so impressed by ChatGPT.

imagine being a writer of science fiction so poor at extrapolation that you "didn't expect" this incredibly obvious outcome
Turns out that SF writers don't love people who volunteer to implement the Torment Nexus nitter.net/shl/status/1...

There is no reason to humour anyone talking about AGI or give someone credit for doing so, it is not an "opinion" to "debate" as there is no actual proof it's possible. "Extrapolation" is another word for making shit up

pope francis wore simpler, unceremonious clothes. with a bit of extrapolation i predict by 2100 we’ll have a nudist pope

“It’s just a claim about numbers”

You were implicitly making a claim about importance and effectiveness and a child capable of a baseline level of logical extrapolation can see this

The linear extrapolation of the past 15 years and the nonlinear 30-year extrapolation now both put global warming at +1.54°C above 1850-1900.

Reaching +2°C in 2037 or 2034.

yeah except in this case linear extrapolation probably misses low

Note how this isn't some off-the-cuff misstatement or exaggeration. He has an entire dishonest chain of reasoning built on misrepresenting VAERS data and dubious extrapolation from the Harvard Pilgrim study. This is a planned lie that would not survive any scrutiny; he knows he won't get any.
Sen. Ron Johnson claims preposterously that as many as 3.9 MILLION (!!!) Americans died as a result of the covid vaccine

Complete insanity

It's basically extrapolation failure, right?
"Hallucination" implies conscious experience that chatbots lack. We need another term for the specific kind of error where they make things up out of whole cloth. It's not lying because they don't know anything.
Speaking of which — when AI chatbots make mistakes, call them that: mistakes, errors, inaccuracies. “Hallucinations” is an unnecessarily jargony term that anthropomorphizes the chatbots. (5/x)

It’s not subjective interpretation. It’s basic logical extrapolation. How can innocent people drop bombs on innocent people? Be serious

folks we're doing Peruvian election results extrapolation, strap in bsky.app/profile/pfoh...
Lima has 85% of votes counted vs 72% for the whole country so her lead will probably shrink and we might see her with 49.9% again.

my quick math shows Sanchez needing ~61% of the remaining non-Lima vote (assuming Lima's remaining 15% split at the current rate) but he's currently at 55% of that vote

Backwards extrapolation to 1k yds total is crazy

And like… if you didn't see this coming, you really need to work on your logical extrapolation skills.
just saw a group of masked men stuffing masked ICE agents into an unmarked car, who were saying "we're ICE we're ICE!" but the abductors shouted to the crowd "no we're ICE!" no one knew who was ICE, so no one in the crowd said anything.
