🇨🇭ordered 5 Patriot systems and missiles in 2022. We already paid ~$700m and got nothing. Delivery date is now expected later than 2035(!) and costs increase 3 fold(!)

Once you remove the criterion for how well a defence tech integrates and is interoperable with USian tech, the F35 isn’t the runaway leader anymore. When the Armed Forces folks say the F35 better meets their needs, that one criterion is often the tip in the balance. Remove it and the result changes.

The F35 is a lemon and a liability. Its maintenance time alone should disqualify it. To maintain air coverage, anywhere we place it we would need to maintain 3 airframes where we want 1 flying… that is the maintenance bill.
