Normally, the TPM needs a place to store secrets/keys/etc. fTPM is really just…software.

it's not. google how to upgrade without TPM and it might be fixable merely by turning on fTPM 2.0 or secure boot in bios

A bug would occasionally occur where the CPU had to pause all other operations until that fTPM read/write finished.
Of course, this caused a HUGE tail latency spike.
Audio is quite real-time…your soundcard would just loop whatever piece was in the buffer which occasionally sounded horrifying.

Today I learned the difference between TPMv2 and fTPM. It seems like a lot of devices are using firmware versions of TPM although the specification version lists 2.0 with a subversion.

There is a race to get AI added to all devices at the bios level with TPM / dTPM / iTPM and fTPM access at runtime.
