As a person with medium faceblindness who is absolutely hopeless at recognizing celebrities, alt text has helped me get punchlines on multiple occasions
my alt text plea to folks who don’t have accessibility issues: aside from just being the right thing to do, how many times have you run into a post of someone quoting something with a picture of a character you can’t quite place? how helpful would it be to click on the picture and see who it is?
it annoys me when people act like alt text is for "real posts" and not for shitposts, alt text is even more important on shitposts sometimes where often humor is all about a certain context that can be easily missed

But like, here's how bad my faceblindness is: when we watched Sinners, it took me around half the movie to realize Smoke and Stack were twin brothers played by the same actor, because he made the body language and voice patterns/cadences so distinct between the two.
