“Lie down.” “I would rather remain sitting.” Nitara furrowed her brow, her gaze sharpening, and fought a sudden and cruel urge to smirk. Yes, she could allow Ashrah to stay in her preferred position, it wouldn’t interfere with her feeding. She could. But something—a perverse thing—awakened inside her, and she realised she didn’t want to relent. No, she wanted to command. To control. To punish. She leant down so her eyes were level with Ashrah’s. “That wasn’t a request. Lie down and shut up.” Ashrah stared her back, motes of light purple swirling in the depths of her eyes like a bright cloud amid an otherwise dark sky, and Nitara expected the demon’s stubbornness to win out. It was then with surprise that she watched as Ashrah slowly eased onto the rock, her gaze never leaving Nitara’s. “See? You can be obedient when you want.”

After so many years together, Belladonna and Reginald had grown so used to each other’s outbursts that the two perfectly balanced each other. “If what you say is true, Olivia is clearly losing control of herself and her powers, making her a danger to everyone in this clan. We gave her until morning to come to us with her decision, and that time has long since passed.” “Reginald, please! I can save her!” Lucian screamed at the elder, speaking his name openly. Instantly Reginald’s eyes zeroed in on Lucian, and he began to walk towards the restrained vampire. It was a top offense to speak to one of the Elders so casually, and to use their first name in such familiarity—especially during an official meeting—was a sin of an almost unforgivable level.

Control is a very, VERY big part of Fire to Flowers! Gotta have quite a bit to be a secret vampire.
Her body and night-black clothes dissolve into a crimson mist. The cloud slips through the window and slithers down from their second-story room, throbbing rhythmically like an ethereal vein. It only coalesces back into Tiferet when she reaches the dark woods behind the inn. There, Blanchefleur’s lullaby of bodies is replaced by more varied rhythms from hidden things in the trees and undergrowth. Beasts: her true prey. They aren’t as satisfying as hurting a thinking, breathing, feeling person. The terror and blood of a wild animal are primal, simple things, like knowing the taste of wine and honey but choosing to subsist on bread and raw leaves. Enough to survive; never enough to fill the gaping hole carved into her. But the knowledge of her victory fuels her endurance. She will not allow herself to become the heartless predator Meliagrance wanted to make of her. Even decades after his death, she will not give him the satisfaction.

The prince watched him for several long seconds. A faint hum of anxiety rippled through his aura and his heart beat fast under Valentine's hand. The warm scent of blood turned sharp and heavy as it finally spilled over the edge of torn skin and slowly traced a line across his palm. "Sir?" Morgan asked, a flicker of caution in his voice now. "Have you eaten yet today?" Valentine hesitated before releasing Morgan's wrist in such a deliberate way that he felt no need to further explain himself. "You may want to find a bandage." Still, Morgan didn't fully draw his back. He paused for the space of a few breaths, considering. Then he reached out again, his hand open and tilted to avoid spilling any blood on the pale tile.

With some effort, she could have fought it. Was Verris testing how much power she had to use in order to make her cooperate, or reminding Faine of their agreement? The spark of compulsion made it tempting to crawl inside herself, like when Dante would visit her. Verris seemed inclined to protect her, and as far as Faine knew, had let her sleep unmolested. She would be fine. This would be fine.

When I had had my fill, I left Declan face down in the shards of ceramics, stepping on his corpse as I moved to sit in a nearby chair as I swayed slightly through the swoon of the blood washing over me. It was a thing I had little control over, even after a century. The swoon could last anywhere between one and ten minutes, where the world around me grew very faint, and all I knew was the echo of my victim’s life in my devil’s heart. As such, I did not hear the front door open once again. I did hear the gasp, however. I looked up to find a wide-eyed Mona looking at me in the doorway. She was wearing a pair of God-awful baggy denim overalls with a colourful patch on the knee, and her glasses sat low on the bridge of her nose. Her backpack hanging from one strap off her shoulder slipped, dropping to the floor with a thump…it seemed to echo in the stillness of the room.

From my vampire novel, In Aeternum, this is the moment right after Jay finds out that Roman is a vampire.
“You won’t kill me?” A hint of a smile on those dark lips. “No.” “Why? I thought…” “Yes, I do kill to feed. But I won’t kill you.” “Why?” His heart raced, pushing that thick blood around, because he wanted to hear the answer he could feel inside of him. Breathing hard to keep conscious, thinking he might be going mad. “Because I love you.” Jay closed his eyes for a split second, then looked at him again. “I thought vampires can’t love… that they don’t have feelings.” “It happens rarely. And we do have feelings, some of us more than others.” “There’s more of you…” Roman just nodded. “Yes, but we don’t gather in clubs, sipping blood from tall glasses and discussing the fate of the world. Or plotting. We are scattered in the world and try to live as best as we can among humans.” “Why me?” Roman shrugged. “This is out of my control. We match, somehow…” Hoping that Jay felt the same, even if he could hear his heart rush, but it could have been his stress too. Jay sat up, his hands in his lap. “So… what now?” “We could make this work, somehow… If you want to…” If you have feelings for me. But he could not say the words, just waited, hoping. Jay held his hands out. “Come closer.” Roman sat on the bed next to him and put his hand in his hand. Jay sat up, pulling him closer, cupping his face. He ran his thumbs on that smooth, hard skin. It was almost cold, those dark eyes welled up a bit, waiting. “Kiss me.” Roman pulled him close and kissed him, and Jay’s doubts went away, even if his lips were cold, his mouth cooler, this is what he wanted. He broke it, softly panting. “I want to be with you.” Roman put his palm on his face. “Sure?” “Sure.”

It quivered after the tension had lessened and [redacted] pressed her fingers into my hair, sighing. I remembered how bewitching it was to be on the receiving end of such a bite but, truthfully, could consider little more than my own condition. Warmth surged through me, my suffering lessening exponentially with each swallow. Though I had every intention to temper myself, to drink only a moment, and then one more, euphoria seized me. Even as the hand grew slack against my head, I could not persuade myself to stop. I was much aggrieved at the notion that this was the necessary sacrifice Freyja had suggested. I would not have chosen it and yet, when I agreed to this against my better judgement, I had.

A pungent odor hung in the air, of sickness, sage, and a room made musty by disuse. As dim light from Raven’s candle washed over the small space, a figure was illuminated. The silhouette was feminine with long, light colored skirts. It faced away, head canted at a severe angle to the left and arms limp at its sides. More startling yet, the woman seemed to float several inches above the ground. Raspy breaths filled the room, both too long and infrequent. As Raven’s eyes continued downward, they landed on a deep red stain upon the rug. A sudden terror seized her and she screamed, scrambling backwards and slipping. Pain jolted up her spine at the impact of wooden floors beneath her and the figure crumbled like a marionette which had its strings cut. It crashed into a small table, knocking off something out of view which shattered loudly. Where it once appeared suspended was a taller form, the redhead whom Raven had met earlier in the evening. Her lips were dark and smudged, as if by lipstick though she hadn’t worn any. The shadows were all the more intense around her head, like a halo, but her eyes were captivatingly bright. Raven’s chest burned with her own labored breath. She should have shouted again, or continued her unceremonious exit from the room, but she was stricken by some combination of awe, fear; something deeper, darker. Her body was frozen in place like one of those pinned moths she so adored, completely still aside from how her hand with the chamberstick trembled. Its small flame danced as the Master approached, stepping over the body without a glance. “It is past bedtime, smar hrafn.” She sounded amused, her accent unusually thick at the end, or was that English at all?

Santi buried his fangs in his neck with a sharp, precise move, reaching even deeper than the bite that killed his already forgotten human meal. A sensual moan echoed across the cave, materializing Minh’s sheer bliss. Every time he experienced Santi’s bite of awakening, he wouldn’t mind being consumed until there was nothing left, becoming the ultimate offering to his sire in his most vulnerable state. But Santi’s love was not like that. And would never be.

The dip of his thigh like a chalice. He pressed his lips to the hot silken skin, parchment mouth suddenly brimming. The smell of rust filled his skull with a deep dark, the world swallowed. His man's body was jewelled with sweat, beads of blood welling at the points of the cilice bound to his milk thigh like rubies. Silencio found his throat tight and dry, his thoughts turned to zipping corpse flies, his prayer drowned by a roar swelling in him that he held tight like a feral hound. His teeth ached for the bite like a knife, desirous of sinking into the flesh. The severing skin, the bursting vein, the vulgarity of being wrapped within living meat.

Dei dipped his head and lowered his mouth to the side of her neck. She banished all foolish thoughts of other desires. He was here for blood, and blood was all she was obliged to give. Still, Ivy took pride in the fact that, out of all the preening beauties in this room, he had come to her. “You smell decadent, Miss Priest.” Dei’s lips brushed her neck when he spoke, and his nose teased the soft spot beneath her ear. “I expect you’ll taste just as lovely.” “I told you,” Ivy breathed, “to call me Ivy. Lord Amadeus.” “Of course, dear Ivy. How rude of me.” He laid his hand on the other side of her neck, encircling it with long fingers. Not grabbing, just holding. Ivy swallowed and felt an unexpected thrill at even a slight sensation of tightness. Dei tipped Ivy’s head to the side, then teased his lips on her skin for another moment as if taunting himself, then suddenly—finally—bit into her neck. #FangOut 10/25

The pleasure was strong enough to drown out the wrongness that should have been obvious, but that was how they got you, Sammy figured. Removing my sunglasses and tossing them onto the table, I stepped up beside Declan, crouching down beside him and offering a toothy grin. I let him have a good look at my iridescently blue-flamed eyes. At the sharp-toothed creature bringing about his death. His horror was palpable, radiating in the pounding rhythm of his heart, its sound intoxicating. Wheezing, he tried to speak, but no sound escaped his ruined voice box.  I nodded in agreement all the same. “Yes, now you understand. That is the type of girl that I am.” I scarcely remember my final descent on him, just the sensation of his blood coating the back of my throat as I sunk my fangs into his neck, hot with his life, surprisingly sweet for such a foul individual. I suppose it can be said that there is something good in everyone. The blood was thick, almost buttery, but with surprising spicy notes amongst the copper-forward main flavour, and I briefly lost myself in the act of feeding.

Świetlana nods. “They worry that should the discord get completely out of hand, there will be no one to secede me as ruler. I’m sorry I’ve been keeping that from you. Perhaps it’s because my fondness for you is closer to that of a sibling that I haven’t raised the point. But if this is to be our final meeting like this, I need to ask to leave no road untraveled: Sasza, will you be my husband?” “Absolutely not.” The words come out a little too quickly—a concise, but deranged summary of a much longer point. “You said you would be anything I need you to be, Sasza.” There is no jest in their eyes. They genuinely think marrying Sasza is a viable solution. “No, you wanted me to be your vampire, and I can’t even enumerate the reasons that is fundamentally incompatible with being your husband. There’s the Partition Treaty, for one. Also consider that I cannot sire children and you cannot bear them. There would be more questions than we can answer, and those are lies I don’t want to carry.” He can go on, but he waits for their response first. They chew the inside of their cheek. “Why must you always be so correct?”
