Well I just learned that when I went to Fastaval in 2013, I was about 35 miles from the birthplace and childhood home of my great great grandmother Inger Kjerstina Pedersdatter. She was born in Aalborg in the 1850s.

Yesterday we were talking about Fastaval and their concept of freeform "scenarios" interrupts the module discourse. A scenario is a 2 or 4-hour *play experience*, which may or may not contain the system or a preconceived story, and will often run much differently between various Fastaval rooms.
Here is something for when you want to explore the range of what TTRPGs can do. Go pick it up and have a different game night with your game group.

As a Germanist who studies SFF *and* TTRPGs, Schmiss (2024) is an amazing horror game adaptation of Hanns Heinz Ewers' Alraune (1911) and Joseph Conrad's The Duel (1908), also resonating with Musil's Confusions of Young Törless (1906).
This scenario is exactly my thing, and makes me miss Fastaval!

Both Europeans and Americans responding and contributing to developments at the Danish convention Fastaval played no small part in producing the modern "chamber larp" and "freeform larp" movements in the 2000s. What started in US SFF fandom became a true international game design dialogue.
We have published our first report on larp festivals and conventions, explaining the foundations of the work we are doing in Larpocracy: Larp Festivals as Democratic Spaces.
