This morning I cycled to Little H-E-B, aka the SoCo temp store (which I 🩵 and will miss). Stopped at Talbot’s “Your Essential Magnificence.” The shrine is a reminder that your essential magnificence is never in question.

Yeah, but Atlantis sank in the 1970s.

(libertarian project, sailed a ferrocement boat from the Hudson River to the Bahamas, learned about hurricanes the hard way)

Ferrocement isn't an awful material to build with, but it needs handling carefully. There was something of a home-building craze with concrete yachts and the real danger is that you can't see how well it's been poured - good and bad ones look very similar until one splits apart and sinks...

My first biophiliac ferrocement sculpture is almost finished. Waiting until we have a few string of decent temperature days before applying a stain and the sealer. Now on to welding five more armatures.

The Big Duck is a ferrocement style building in the shape of a duck.

This structure inspired the word "duck" to be a common phrase in academic literature used to refer to buildings shaped like everyday objects or describe excessive ornamentation used in graphical presentations of data.

There are sunburned divorcees building double ended "round the world" sailboats in every town across the land. Beware the ferrocement

Thanks! And here’s the artist statement for sculpture in the previous picture. I love Talbot’s explanation of his work!!!

“May it remind you that your inherent goodness, your majesty, your essential magnificence, is never in question.”

The "Big Duck", a famous ferrocement building on eastern Long Island N.Y. where I grew up. Built in 1931 in Riverhead it has moved several times and now resides in Flanders. It's eyes are tail lights from a Ford Model T. Now, any building with irrelevant decorative elements is called a "Duck" #birds

rebar creates tensile strength & concrete has excellent compression strength.

look into monolithic dome construction videos on youtube.

they are much more eloquent in their descriptions

& also search 🔍 online for ferrocement houses.

Over the last three weeks, we built sixty feet of ferrocement wall. @erle.bsky.social says it looks like someone’s learning experience, but in a good way. Which it definitely was.

In East Sumba, our teams and local villagers are building a 5,300-litre ferrocement reservoir for three rural homes. Safe water makes hygiene possible before illness begins.

Water is one of the least expensive medicines.
