Word on the street is we still don't understand what Ficore is, so I'm sharing this.
If an actor is receiving letters from SAG about violating GR1, they are not Ficore. They are full members receiving C&D letters as consequence for breaking a rule.
These actors exist but they are not the norm.

Ficore is essentially the intermediary of union and non-u status. These actors are *technically* allowed to work non-u jobs so they're the ones usually leading the charge to flip.

the game itself has signed onto an "interim agreement." The interim agreement provides Union talent with generative AI protections. Please note that many actors that are non-union and even ficore are holding the line on projects as well because they also want these protections too. While some (2/3)

“NU actors will all be fired!” Respectfully, HUH?! I don’t know where this got picked up from but it’s not true. Every actor starts out NU and the typical career growth is either becoming a Union actor or Ficore. Every production is capable of hiring every swathe of talent.

I think the rule of thumb should be that if you go ficore, you lose the authority to speak on any subject involving the union.

I am ficore myself. There are a lot of ficore members. Usually SAG is very understanding of the circumstances of why someone becomes ficore. For me it was because of my disabilities. I have never seen anyone be "punished" for being ficore.

FiCore is treated like the bad option because to ALL unions, it is just that. FiCore was coined in a '63 SCOTUS decision (NLRB vs GM) that effectively kneecapped the power of all unions in the US.

And again, nobody would be fired. Non-members would be eligible to work for a minimum of 30 days without joining, potentially longer. International actors never have to join (SAG-AFTRA's jurisdiction ends at the US borders). FiCore is an option many choose to take (unfortunately).

I understand the argument. It might even make sense in a different landscape. But in actuality, the only American actor who isn't prepared to one day make the choice between union or FiCore is a hobbyist. A game with this kind of market share isn't casting hobbyists, they are casting professionals.

But Ficore and ESPECIALLY Non-U have the biggest battles because, apparently, they are seen as 'lesser quality' or are admonished for self-judging their own values instead of just shutting up and lining up quietly.

Every performer I've ever known pursuing a career in acting wants to be considered for roles in union projects. If you want to benefit from union contracts by working union jobs, at some point you'll have to either join the union or go through the FiCore carve out.
