I have completely replaced File Explorer with FilePilot in daily use. That's probably the fastest I've ever permanently switched a bread-and-butter tool like this. FilePilot beta is more polished than most people's finished products :)

I highly recommend trying out TaskSlinger (task manager replacement) and Filepilot (explorer replacement) to make everyday tasks on Windows faster and less cumbersome. Finally Everything (voidtools) for blazing fast search.

A funny post I saw from the filepilot creator (which is like, blazing fast explorer alternative) about them adding copilot to explorer was like oh god no, stop it, I need you to make explorer slow but I won't have a market if you just drive everyone off!!

Probably depends on your workflow, but for me it's stuff like some missing drag-and-drop interactions (can't drag things out of 7zip into a Filepilot window) and typing paths in the Start menu doesn't send you to the right directory.

As someone who needs to fiddle with files a lot, the almost non-existent directory scanning and filtering and the flexible, sleek UI have already saved me countless minutes and I've only been using it for 2 days.

i'm feeling more and more separated pop culture lol. putting my to-do list in the notes sidebar of vivaldi and posting about it on bluesky while working on an audio job (in Reaper, but I'm dragging files in from FilePilot), looking forward to working on my godot game (i use vscodium as my IDE)

I've been playing with the beta of #filepilot and it is so fast compared to Explorer. It isn't freeware, but I think worth it. $40 for perpetual license seems cheap for the time I'd save:

i joke but like, windows + a debloat script + powertoys + scoop + clink & busybox genuinely feels like, at *least* as unixporn as anything you can do with a mac
oh and replace some of the default windows apps w/ better FOSS alternatives i.e. imageglass, filepilot
you can rice windows and it's fun!

You might want to report the crashes in the discord ( discord.com/invite/PjH9z...). I have never had FilePilot crash, so, it's possible you have hit some things that aren't as common, and they might not know about it.
