Namco hit hard on the shmup and arcade sprite scalers on the console front in 1990 with FINALBLASTER and BURNING FORCE.

You might wonder why you sometimes see NAMCOT on their games, not NAMCO. NAMCOT was the name used for the home games division's releases until 1995.
A gorgeous ad poster featuring artwork and screenies, one game on each side, with FinalBlaster featuring a cool sci-fi fighter and Burning Force showcasing the game's female protag, who was wholly obfuscated in the North American release and recast as helping a new male one.
