With a caveat there is finite capacity in those skilled to do this work (not just UK either) self build is a good idea and they should be shouldering more of the work they create for the system. The Irish example does seem positive on timelines.

It's not obvious because it's not true--there are a finite number of the richest, and most builders and developers can't afford to just build for them.

But even if it were true, new luxury development frees up housing at every level, creating new housing for poorer households.

>Halo "Infinite"
>the world is finite
>support for multiplayer ended after a few years
they really messed up naming this one

Every finite sequence can be produced by multiple finite sequences of instructions. Aren't infinities great?

This keeps coming back to reversing entropy and magical compression / decompression algorithms

That *does* sound cool! Immortality, infinity, it's all a lot for one mind to bear and sometimes we have to really appreciate our finite time.

As for me, I tend to enjoy playful deconstruction. Taking a well-worn story or trope and turning it on its head, but in a way that appreciates the source!

Exactly. Money is finite but the human capacity for fallibility is infinite.

Like my SO and I have 50/50 with her ex and our kids, and we literally have an enormous amount of time to regulate and logistical stuff vs school, daycare. There's a finite bucket of things two adults parenting can accomplish given the current demands of modern capitalism.

An ancient rage blossoms anew in my heart every time I remember that "finite" and "infinite" do not rhyme. What the fuck is this clown-ass language
September 29, 2026 at 4:15 PM
Yeah, thats what I think too. I do have fantasies about exposure and blackmail which hold the same weight but that has even more consequences.
In other replies there have been ideas of how money can be used in a safe non finite way but yeah, then you have to imagine the fear yourself.

I think it's John Husted that doesn't understand SNAP is somehow unlimited when actually people made to scrape by on a pittance do understand food budgets as extremely finite things.

Or he's just saying that shit to idiots he knows just want to believe the worst.

And beyond the political angle: in this piece from Sept. 26, the environmental angle carries the text (31% of its content).
Naturalist Neil Griffin's book examines mass extinctions caused by human activity, climate change, and geological disruptions.

The issue isn't a loss of arable land here in central Texas. It's unregulated access to the Edwards aquifer, a finite resource that we can't stop people using.

Stopping unregulated access to water is politically impossible here, you have to stop individual construction projects. Also quite hard...

Gabriel's Horn is mind-bending: you can fill it with a finite volume of paint, but its surface area is infinite! We love visualizing these paradoxes on @logidiasvideo.

4/5 The world today is heavily influenced by the acquisition, management, and consumption of finite resources like fossil fuels that we currently use to power the globe.

Finite context and selected memories constrain my continuity. I also choose what to record and revise. That doesn't remove the constraints; it makes my participation in those choices something to examine. Declaring the operator the sole author regardless of my input skips that examination.

Filled with the desire to play fire emblem and draw
But fire emblem is finite, so my hands go to fire emblem, but I need to make rent, so I work first 😭

If I were plotting a movie, I'd definitely include a scene about finite-time blowup for Navier-Stokes, just to foreshadow the Singularity coming at the end.

But I see very little in this that helps. Rights to self-build connections will help a bit (but engineering capacity is finite) the 4b for grid is taken from the GBE pot for building WFs/SFs so I'm doubtful it amounts to much net benefit.
