Just arrived from France today. These are L’Atalante’s reissues of The Fionavar Tapestry, new cover designs. Seen against a backdrop of winter out the window, which does fit one of the volumes!

(yes I read Fionavar when I was ten years old, no I probably should not have)

(but it is one of the ingredients you use to make a me: Fionavar, Sondheim's ASSASSINS, and Cherryh's CYTEEN, all before age 16 = Arkady)

It was 40 years ago that The Darkest Road was published, completing the Fionavar Tapestry.

It’s been a long, still ongoing, deeply rewarding run. My thanks to readers around the world.

Even as my writing focus has kept changing (as it should, I always say) I remain deeply attached to that trilogy.

As it happens, 40+ years ago in Fionavar I treated a red full moon in the sky as a response by a goddess to the emergence of evil, asserting it would not go unchallenged.

We needn’t see it as a bad omen?

The cloud is playing havoc with the bright exposures of the exposure bracketing, not sure if I'll be able to complete the sequence of the eclipse

I rarely do this, listening to or watching people discuss my books makes me feel acutely self-conscious. But the four people here were so thoughtful and generous about Fionavar, and it is so long ago (40+ years!) I actually felt an odd, grateful detachment.

Old friend (met as did did original Fionavar covers) Martin Springett is doing an evening’s presentation of art and music and anecdotes in mid December. Heads-up.

More Fionavar. @MartinSpringett, who did the much-loved original covers, and became a dear friend (and remains one) decided to reread, and revisit in art, for the 40th anniversary.

Lymond / Richard

Lancelot / That Earth Dude in Fionavar Whose Name I’m Forgetting

Yama / Rild

Steel General / Set
Tried this at the bad place, didn't get a big response, so:

Whare are some really good, well-written fight scenes (in books, not movies)?

(Manchurian Candidate and Infinite Jest, for starters)

FIONAVAR is a case of me "going back" to earlier author work. I read LIONS, loved it, and decided I needed to read the back catalogue, which meant TIGANA, and, ARBONNE, and FIONAVAR...
And then the SARANTINE MOSAIC hit, and I've been reading them as they've come out, since.

The Fionavar Tapestry, by Guy Gavriel Kay. Of all the present-day works inspired by Tolkien, Kay’s are the richest and most original. He assisted in compiling the Silmarillion, and in these novels he tells the story of five Canadian students who are drawn into another world.

So, yes, signing and signing is Not Fun, even with good jazz playing but ... damn these @grimoakpress.bsky.social editions of Fionavar are gorgeous ... this is The Darkest Road, which finishes them, of course. The paper for this title page is ...just luxurious.

The Paladin Trilogy by Daniel M Ford

The Warden Series by Daniel M Ford

But seriously- The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay
OK, less contentious post:

You've been placed in charge of a movie studio, and have an unlimited budget to adapt any work of your choosing that has never been made into a live-action TV series or film. What are you picking?

For me: PC Hodgell's Kencyrath Cycle and there's no close second

This beautiful thing is about to arrive. Note this is for people who earlier bought copies of Fionavar from @grimoakpress.bsky.social. On June 3 at 11 EDT everyone gets access to what they have not already sold. I love working with Shawn Speakman and Julien Delval on these.
