Good morning, Kira and the #NovemberWorldbuilders!
Orange is the color of FifthDay—which is the home Day of my MC, Loic.
Orange dyes on The Island come from safflower, onion, pomegranate, annatto, saffron, and turmeric. (The latter grows best in FirstDay and SecondDay.)…

Hey there, #NovemberWorldbuilders friends! I'm combining yellow and orange because orange tends to get the short end of the stick. But feel free to talk about either or both! What is something in your fictional world that is YELLOW or ORANGE?

Tying a color to each Day and then thinking about which plants actually make those dyes is such a rich detail. I love that turmeric grows best in FirstDay and SecondDay.

…The first people on The Island (in what later came o be called "FirstDay") spoke of "new day" as they worked to make it livable and safe. Their children—being taught that the Island had 7 sections like the one where they lived, and a week had 7 days—figured that the area itself was called "NewDay"…

#OctoberWorldbuilders With abundant edible sea life, and kilometer-deep drop-offs on all sides right offshore, net fishing is a significant part of life on The Island. One of my MCs, Loic, weaves nets, but his skill is dwarfed by that of the woman called Netweaver, who lives high Up in FirstDay.
Good morning, #OctoberWorldbuilders! This week is dedicated to the work and jobs done by people in your fictional world. Today's Q: What are some common jobs done by people in your setting? For instance, is it medieval with lots of farmers? A spaceship with engineers? Something else?

#LitHodgepodge (13) The Island's villages and festivals (on the ocean planet Celesta) would be quite archetypal, despite most buildings outside of FirstDay being grown from house-vines rather than being constructed things — a hot-pie is a hot-pie, after all, whatever the local culture might call it!

Archetypal settings tap into the built-in symbolism of recognizable spaces. There’s a cave? We might uncover hidden truths. A 24/7 diner in a mystery? Prime setting for info exchange.
What’s an archetypal setting in your WIP? How do you use it?

TUESDAY TROPES

Prompt:
13 | Tell us about an archetypal setting in your WIP. What is it, and how does it function in the story? How do you utilize, and possibly subvert, expected patterns? Feel free to share a snip.
[Graphic of a talking crow]
Examples of archetypal settings range from the broadly symbolic, such as the maze, the garden, or the wasteland, to more genre-specific tropes, like the tavern in fantasy novels or the small town with a dark secret in thrillers.
