[4/6] La surpêche s’ajoute aux effets du plastique et du réchauffement climatique. Une faible biomasse réduit la diversité génétique, et donc la capacité d’adaptation des espèces. Résultat : les populations s’effondrent plus vite. #geography #overfishing #marineecosystems #fishstocks

The stupidity of this post. Cormorants are an invasive species on the Great Lakes and inland waterways. There are no factory ships on any of them. While overfishing is a serious ocean problem, being unfactual doesn't help. Even a little bit.
Cormorants are destroying native fishstocks and birds.

#geography #overfishing #fishstocks

🐟 Mackerel crisis: not overfishing alone

New data challenges the mackerel story. Weak recruitment over many years is the main cause of decline, says the Norwegian Pelagic Association (Pelagisk Forening) 🇳🇴.

You, baffled by this sight, quickly figure that if its been feeding from your fishstocks for days then it must not have had a need to hunt either, thus not needing to attack you for food. Thus not being a threat to you. You start getting ideas...what if you could befriend an apex predator?

Protection, Lost
Fish that cross into unprotected waters are suddenly fair game. That undercuts conservation, fisheries management, and the communities who rely on them.

I remember when it was pronounced dead pretty much. I do recall a lot of volunteers cleaning it up with the hope of restoring the run. Great news. I remember when there were Salmon in Soos Creek in Kent too back in 74. I wonder how it's doing. They closed Cedar River for 10 years, fishstocks bloomed
