The American fascist movement appears to be fissuring back into its rival jock and creep factions

‘Labour polled 11% in a seat that the party has held for 100 years’ is the headline news this morning. Feels like a headline going to hear a lot in the next year.

(Also result - Plaid win - does show that the fissuring of British politics isn’t all to the right)

Posts like this from folk in England make me wonder why its taken Labour losing to Plaid in Wales for them to notice "fissuring in British politics". Scotland has been increasingly "fissuring" for decades, without comment.

Are we just more remote?

1. Yikes, I’m glad nobody was hurt

2. Note the workplace fissuring: “The warehouse was operated by National Freight Inc. (NFI) Industries, a third-party logistics firm.”

the problem with the "normal" system Biden was desperately trying to prop up (ntm Obama & Hillary Clinton) is that its great fissuring cracks like white collar predation, health under-insurance, or 1099 tax rates were deemed too "small," too "niche" on a by-case basis to be worth vigorous redress

Because the 10+ years of extreme programming & false lying narratives are all now coming unraveled. MAGA people’s actual fantasy realities are broken, shorting out, fissuring.

The fascists created a machine that they couldn’t fully control & wasn’t working fast to solve the open ended Qonspiracies.

Your chaos had almost
Subsumed us
in its careless cyclone
And I think all you wanted
Was to live on your own terms
Unencumbered by fear
& caution;
Perhaps your mind
Had already found
its red root
Fissuring
from the rites of passage
Dictating
The outcomes
of our destiny

Radiologist said "Nonaggressive features, nothing bad. Guessing it's related to osteoarthritis, maybe large subchondral cyst related to cartilaginous fissuring. Can prove it with mr in any case. No bony destruction, no periosteal reaction, no soft tissue mass." So NO bone cancer!!!!!!

You want one parent to stay home? Raise the Goddamn minimum wage from $7.25 an hour, empower unions, & end fissuring practices. It’s not rocket science.

Blistering deep
In the marrow
Were #toxins that couldn’t
Be reached
Digging through
The surface matter
Of her being;
It was sickness
That had to be torn loose
Like a leech from the blood
And pretending she was okay
Only made her weaker —
Splinters fissuring
From her dark lips

the degree to which this is something you should care about practically is debatable, but it does seem to be fissuring at least Hanania from the broader right wing coalition

The waiting room at the clinic was always clogged. With sickness, with people. With dread and anxiety twisting the hands of the clock behind its rigid back. With babies new to the #rigmarole of waiting, restlessness squirming through their tiny bodies. Fissuring the gauzed silence.

With the expansion of construction subcontracting* (aka "fissuring") of work, we find it is labor brokers ("coyotes") who use naked intimidation tactics, including threats of reporting workers to ICE. Players up the contracting chain profess ignorance.

*often illegal employee 1099 misclassification
Calling the government to deport your union workers became a pretty standard move by a lot of employers in industries such as leather and meatpacking for a long time after this, though I haven’t heard of a recent case of this in some time now, for whatever that is worth.

Gift link, because I don't want to be the only person obsessing over the sad, crazy story of Monica Getz and her planet-fissuring divorce. May she rest in peace. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/u...
Monica Getz, Advocate for Divorce Court Reform, Dies at 90 (Gift Article)
Her troubled marriage to the jazz star Stan Getz led to a headline-making divorce case. The result of the trial gave her a cause to fight for.

the sensation of brightness behind your eyes (that rupture) and the air fissuring open in a great and terrible resound, then the weightlessness of falling from a dream—this comic makes me want better words and larger worlds.

A problem w/ “low prices” as the sole goal for antitrust is that they too often stem not from genuine improvements in productive capacity or investments in research, but from worker exploitation & legal arbitrage. Eg include franchising, fissuring, arbitration clauses, & non-competes
