E. Coli bacterium announces it is "proud" to be nominated to replace Makary, says it is "eager to continue Trump's regulatory agenda".

I am not only an avid hiker, but was a member of US EPA expert panels. We had a workshop on the rapid spread of Giardia from human feces deposited in and near wild water. Beginning in the California Bay Area, Giardia spread all over the continent within a few years. Now, there is no safe water. 2/2

I will know in a few weeks if this dream of mine will come true. Please keep your pili and flagellae and archaella crossed.

like the mind and concepts are amoeba and you're just going along and you accidentally wiggle your flagellae against the flagellae of the concept of truth and beauty for just a second but it escapes before you even fully clock the shape of what you just touched :/

Cutlery flagellae so they can be motile

Here goes: release of Episode 100 of #MattersMicrobial, recording of Episode 101, and then family business. Whew. I am as motile as possible as an entity without flagellae.

RFK Jr. is lying. He’s done so for so long that he may believe what’s coming out of his mouth, but he is a clear and present danger to the US, and especially our children.

When he says “there’s no vaccine that is safe and effective” every microbe stands on its flagellae (or whatever) and cheers.
This is a very dangerous lunatic.

RFK Jr: “The polio vaccine "killed many, many more people" than polio ever did.”

Did this fun bacteria mani a few weeks back using a couple of my favourite nail art techniques - fluid art and velvet-style magnetics.

I've lost friends from college over this. They went full fundie after they married. "Intelligent Design shows that carbon dating is flawed!" "Oh. Does Intelligent design have a hypothesis or any evidence? Because a refutation of a theory isn't a theory." "But flagellae!" "Not a theory. Next!"

Volvox sp. of chlorophyte alga in a Sussex riverine SSSI; shown to me by Dave Bangs. Spherical colonies (coenobia) with an extracellular matrix of glycoproteins containing motile somatic cells with flagellae - that enables the colony to “swim” toward light. Reproduce sexually & asexually.

Because of the forces they have to withstand being whizzed around on #flagellae, flagellotropic #phages are super stable. It turns out that the same super-stability remains long after you adapt to a host bacterium without a #flagellum

Highly stable bacteriophages PIN1 and PIN2 have hallmarks of flagellotropic phages but infect immotile bacteria
npj Viruses - Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that kill bacteria, with potential as antibacterial agents in industrial settings, agriculture, and human health. Here, we identified two phages,...

The parasite Perkinsus marinus causes a disease called "Dermo" in oysters and some other bivalves. Its introduction from the Pacific to the Atlantic in the 1940s killed 90-95% of the oysters in some Gulf and East Coast estuaries over the following decades, causing $100s of millions in damages (199)

Flagellae and transcriptase etc. were the real nanobots all along

Viruses are just self-replicating malicious code that sometimes runs on those bots

17th day of #Crustmas is here! Just one week to go and so many crusties to share! I love this little slipper lobster from Lembeh, Indonesia, 2010. look at the 2 flagellae pointing up, and the tartan pattern in its eyes!
Tentatively ID´d as Crenarctus bicuspidatus.

A beautiful Puss moth (Cerura vinula) caterpillar so called after the cat-like appearance of the adult moth, this species is fairly common throughout most of the UK. If disturbed, it raises its head to show its 'face' and waves the twin tails, which have red extendable flagellae.

𝘊𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪 demonstrating its remarkable defensive behaviour near Mwinilunga, Zambia. When threatened, it raises its front and rear ends, exserts yellow flagellae from the latter, and flicks them above its body. More about the life and taxonomy of this cool moth: dx.doi.org/10.4314/met....

Flagellae? Anyway, feel better. Or not like microorganisms.

WhatsApp stuck with their (great!) bacterium. It looks Gram-positive (note the dark purple hue of the stain). The cell appendages are too short to be pili or flagellae, but their number and placement is good. There appears to be DNA, but no compartments, so it's easy to determine it bacterial.

yeah gears!

and flagellae, i think, tick all the boxes even if wheels proper aren't practical here.

As you might expect, this animal has a really long barbel - in fact, "Flagello-" means whip, hence flagellation & bacterial flagellae. This species also has two nice long pectoral fin rays, also tipped with sections of luminous tissue - here's one from DISCOLL #25DaysOfFishmas 🦑
