Met my neighbor, an expert in ancient Mesoamerican flintknapping. I gave him a 1980 video I shot in the Lacandon jungle - a Maya man teaching his son to make arrowheads. In return, he gave me raw obsidian from Teotihuacan's source, and blades he had knapped. 45-year and millennium loops completed.

Decades ago, archaeologist Grant Goltz made a flintknapping exhibit in 5 parts. At the start of each, he made a resin cast of the piece, and then saved all the stone flakes struck to reach the next stage. This is the last (5th) stage, with the last flakes and final replica Besant point. 5cm scale.

Look at this: the legendary Hindsgavl dagger from
Denmark. Perhaps the best example of peak Late Neolithic flintknapping and artistry. Dated to c. 1900-1800 BC.

Wonderful flintknapping!
A figurine of a hartebeest, made of flint, found in a cemetery at Hierakonpolis. It dates to the Naqada II period, 3650–3450 BC.
The Naqada culture was a Chalcolithic Predynastic Egyptian culture. Hierakonpolis is a major site for studying this period.

On display at Neues Museum Berlin.

Wanted to come back to this. Been meaning to draw the girls doing lab work instead of... exposing their bits. Especially Blanaid.

Kiqki's there too, developing cutting edge technology with flintknapping.
