🪰 folks! I spoke to the Transmitter about FlyBase. As noted at flybase.org, bridge $ ran out and many staff were laid off.

Good news is stopgap contributions will keep core FlyBase operations active. But community support remains essential. Please donate @FlyBase and share! 1/2

I just got the notice that all the FlyBase people at Harvard, including me, will be laid off on October 12. I'm devastated.

As you may know, NIH abruptly terminated funding to FlyBase curators based in the United Kingdom. Please help us retain these curators and thereby enable ongoing curation of bibliographic, genetic and phenotypic data by contributing annually (tinyurl.com/4jw65mbb). Thank you.

FlyBase, a Drosophila database, will lose a third of its team in early October because the Harvard grant that covered the employees’ salaries was canceled. Scientists warn that losing FlyBase could devastate fly research.
