Dion Garrett from Rothamsted Research and Lyndall Pereira from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute both spoke at ECT's two-monthly webinar held on 30 May 2025. Dion talked about the famous Rothamsted Insect Survey whilst Lyndall provided a very timely update on the BIOSCAN flying insect diversity DNA sequencing project. The ECT hosts lunchtime webinars every 2 months on ecological topics on key issues surrounding long-term experiments which features speakers from various organisations, including partners and stakeholders. What Is This Bug?

So I was just chilling in bed and I happen to look up and see this weird flying bug in the corner of my room.

Any idea on what type of bug it is?

Obviously it can fly and looked greenish.

Proper spooked me because I didn't expect to see it LOL.

Anyone know what kind of insect this is?
The outside of my house was covered in them this morning and I can’t seem to figure out what they are.

📸 Rare sighting: a flying stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) – the largest beetle species in Western Europe! Adult males are easily recognized by their impressive antler-like jaws. They fly for just a few warm summer weeks to search for mates.
