When I saw the thick fog this morning I decided to walk over to my favourite forest with my camera. This is what I found. If they keep this up we soon will have no forests in my area. 😒

In Finland, we have similar problems.
Finnish #CoalSink has collapsed, as forests have been over-logged, and over half of our peatlands has been ditched.
Finland should cut down less #forests and restore #peatlands.
But #ForestIndustry, far-right party & co just want to cut down the #ClimateLaw!

January 1899: Minneapolis becomes the nation's largest sawmilling center as northern Minnesota lumber production reaches a frenzied peak, with the average annual cut of pine 2.3 billion board feet. By 1930, less than 1/3rd of the state's trees remain, very little of that virgin growth.

Canada’s Forest Industry Faces Crucial Role in Combating Wildfires
The article examines Canada's forest industry's dual role as both a contributor to and potential solution for the nation's escalating wildfire crisis. It highlights how industrial practices like logging and pesticide use have increased forest flammability, while Indigenous fire management techniques were historically effective in controlling burns. The piece discusses the impact of climate change on worsening wildfires, with examples like Ontario's recent boreal fires displacing First Nations communities. Solutions proposed include sustainable forestry methods, rethinking tree species diversity to reduce fire risk, and adopting AI-driven fire prediction models. However, challenges remain, such as balancing economic interests with ecological needs and addressing global climate responsibilities. The author argues that transitioning to low-carbon industries, like using wood in construction, could mitigate environmental damage while supporting the economy. Ultimately, the article calls for integrating Indigenous knowledge and innovative technologies to create a more resilient forest management system.

There's something about working OT on a Friday loading chip and hog trucks that's relaxing. By the end of the day I loaded over a million pounds of wood chips and bark. #forestindustry
