Below a dramatic blue sky with white and grey clouds, and in front of a distant green, low-mountain skyline, a castle stands on the right side of the image looking down on beautifully laid-out formal gardens on the left. The castle, built on a rock, originated as a medieval defense fortress - first mentioned in 1318. Enlarged over the years, the baroque style dating from the 1700s, is now a labyrinthine 8 storeys. It’s a stately stone complex with a main block and several wings. In this image we’re looking end-on at a back corner of the main block facing the garden. The upper floors, beneath a grey slate roof, are a light pastel yellow/light beige. The long rows of multi-paned windows in these storeys have red frames. In the grey roof, on the narrower end of the block facing the viewer, there are five dormer windows on two floors. The lowest two storeys are a step out from the main body, providing a terrace above an outside grand staircase leading down into the garden. These floors look lighter and warmer in colour than the upper floors - a light sandstone that in this light has a warm pinkish undertone. In the background, behind the main castle block we see red tile roofs of other wings of the castle some with eyebrow dormers that look like half-lidded eyes - common in many older dwellings in Saxony, and there is a tower rising above it all. The round, warm beige tower, rises to an octagonal grey storey with arched windows, then up to a rounded dome and spire, topped with a golden ball and weather vane. Below the arched windows we see two clocks. The garden has hard-edge gravel paths, symmetrical lawn areas, bordered by floral trim along the central path, which continues to a large fountain area just visible on the left edge of the image. Among the lawn areas are immaculate hedges and topiaries - some looking like upside-down dark green gum drops. There is a low greenhouse by the edge of the lawn. Beyond the garden there are tree-lined gravel avenues.
