If, like me, you have a hard time remembering which is floundering (the struggling) and which is foundering (the sinking), try to remember that floundering comes before foundering in both reality and the alphabet.

It’s an obvious point but as an American you have never been so ill-served by your federal government, and GOP run states. Trump breaks things, that’s what Putin hired him for and this week was a perfect example of his strategy. We are foundering.

pretty easy mnemonic devices (I think):
supine = spine (so people lying on their bellies are not supine, they're prone)
flounder precedes founder alphabetically, so floundering (struggling, thrashing) occurs before foundering (sinking, failing)
(I made up the second one myself!)
