He founded the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts.

“It’s hard to put into words what Todd Mack meant to the Lakeview East community,” the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce said in a statement. “He wasn’t just a business owner or a leader, he was a cornerstone of our neighborhood and friend of the Lakeview East Chamber. Todd’s creativity, kindness, and commitment touched so many lives, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce also shared a statement following Mack’s death.

“Todd was and will always be a true pillar of not just our Andersonville community, but the entire Chicago creative community,” the chamber wrote. “Todd and all of Foursided have brought and continue to bring creativity and joy to us. We encourage everyone to show Foursided support as a beloved small business and join us in sending well wishes to the Foursided family.”

His obituary reads: “Todd was a creator of unique art. He inspired others with his original collage artwork and framing. People would often say, ‘Holy smokes, how’d he do that?!’ He also encouraged and mentored other artists both formally and informally with support and advice to help them get started. He held many art openings with art of all types and backgrounds. Todd worked to ensure that his art was accessible and affordable for all and that the products in his stores reflected small makers.”

Mack was born in Detroit and raised in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He moved to Chicago in December 2001 to be with his future husband, who he met in 2000.

A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Jan. 26 at Artifact Events, 4325 N. Ravenswood Ave. All Foursided locations will be closed that day in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mack’s memory to the Chicago Diabetes Project.

Support Local News!

Subscribe to Block Club Chicago, an independent, 501(c)(3), journalist-run newsroom.
