"Frankia" feels very 19th/early 20th-century to me. At least for Anglophone scholarship.

For early medieval historians Francia is more common. I initially used Frankia because I dislike how ambiguous the pronunciation of Francia is but I eventually bowed to peer (review) pressure.

@psychicsquirrel.bsky.social Just out of pure interest, did you pop over to Frankia to meet @ladameecureuil.bsky.social this weekend by any chance?

It's just that you're financing your own election campaign & those don't come cheap... I have some friends in Frankia who would like a little word

#medievalsky question: is "Frankia" (as opposed to Francia) more common in a certain subfield than others? I think the consensus is Francia but perhaps I am wrong?

Anglophone, Insular-oriented medieval Latinist/paleographer here and I would use Francia. Frankia would not have occurred to me.

The generational Albion-Frankia feud will never NOT be funny to me, like what do you mean you lot are still at each other's throats literal centuries later?
October 1, 2026 at 5:53 PM
I was actually 'offed' for escaping and running away you Frankia. @wulfhelm.bsky.social used to keep me chained to the wall of the Mead Hall and throw rat bones at me.

Ah no. He buggered off to Frankia with Wulfy's potato hoard and inadvertently enabled the coup because Wulfy was destitute.
