The generational Albion-Frankia feud will never NOT be funny to me, like what do you mean you lot are still at each other's throats literal centuries later?

2019 Antiquity article, where I argued that much of the early Viking influence in the Northern Isles was mediated by activity in the southern North Sea, Frisia, Frankia, England and Ireland. Could this explain the increasing evidence for heterogeneity in North Atlantic island populations?

For early medieval historians Francia is more common. I initially used Frankia because I dislike how ambiguous the pronunciation of Francia is but I eventually bowed to peer (review) pressure.

Anglophone, Insular-oriented medieval Latinist/paleographer here and I would use Francia. Frankia would not have occurred to me.

"Frankia" feels very 19th/early 20th-century to me. At least for Anglophone scholarship.

I would tend to write Frankia, Frankish, etc., but I would also consult a style guide for the publishing house to which I was submitting.

#medievalsky question: is "Frankia" (as opposed to Francia) more common in a certain subfield than others? I think the consensus is Francia but perhaps I am wrong?

Hello my cuddly Black and White friend, I don't believe we've met.

I didn't ask, I was preoccupied at the time. Bear in mind it was also in Frankia.

Emily Larned's artist books and zines about feminist history, craft, care and more, produced by her imprint Adler & Frankia, are all beautiful and we just restocked a bunch of them. Check out her work here: halfletterpress.com/search.php?s...

Why the challenge of this Normand armada when a plump prey was ready for the taking... unless France(Frankia? Francia?) was not ready as in was able to pull up a resistance against an invader? Looking for your answers. @tessmachling.bsky.social @jem-duducu.bsky.social

Along the banks, Common Alders (Alnus glutinosa) reach their spindly red toes into the River Little Ouse, benefiting from a symbiotic relationship with Alder Root Gall Bacteria (Frankia alni). In places the riverbed is pure chalk gravel, reminding that this is one of the world's few #chalkstreams.

Dobrze!

Here's a bigger colony of bryozoan Cristatella mucedo, a spectacular freshwater sponge (Spongillidae) growing on the hull of a boat, signs of Alder Root Gall Bacteria (Frankia alni) & an Odonata flying out to the Great Ouse, where the Little Ouse flows into it, heading for The Wash. #rivers 11/12

Cut-Off Channel inhabited by Swollen River-Mussel (Unio tumidus) & much less welcome, at esp. high density at aqueduct, alien #invasivespecies Zebra Mussel (Dreissena polymorpha). Common Alders, roots now exposed by dropping water levels, show Alder Root Gall Bacteria (Frankia alni). #mollusc 8/15

Vast herds of Common Bithynia (Bithynia tentaculata) #snails feast on overabundant green #algae, their egg masses (2 egg rows in jelly) under stones, with leech eggs. Alder roots showt signs of Alder Root Gall Bacteria (Frankia alni). Sadly, #invasivespecies Signal Crayfish evident. #molluscs 9/10
