Huge scoop from @jonathanalter.bsky.social on the Trump administration's work behind the scenes to kill a Netflix-Warner Bros. merger and help Paramount win instead.

The intended result: a Trump-friendly conglomerate that's basically state-owned media.

After Censoring CBS, Trump Will Go For CNN
I've learned Trump will kill Netflix’s bid for Warner and help Paramount win, giving him control of Fox, CBS, CNN, and TikTok.

Trump's vengeful tone shows he genuinely doesn't support First Amendment rights. He's an instinctive tyrant waging war against America's Constitution & founding principles.

As Benjamin Franklin warned, "Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech."

It’s a good point, further evidence that fascism, which is anti-free and so hates free people living freely precisely for their freeness, is also anti-human and so hates things that are useful to humans precisely for their usefulness.
I mean, there's a more mundane usefulness as well. If you work globally, e.g. as a reporter, or faceless international email sender, it helps to know if that's "Andrea" a guy in Rome or "Andrea" a woman in Dublin.
Pronouns in bios are a way of indicating that trans and nonbinary people are normal and transphobic bigots are abnormal, which is why transphobic bigots hate and fear pronouns in bios.

These fevered ego who constantly whine “you can’t say anything” then constantly punish people for what they say.

While it's true that we built many places in the U.S. to be car dependent, I don't understand this perspective of throwing up our hands and saying, "Welp, nothing we can do now!"

It ignores many communities that have been redesigned to reduce car dependency. Better things actually are possible!

Not for civil matters (and the freeness for public Defenders is quite conditional, lots of states decide you are rich enough to pay)

But better off with just googling a random question and reading the summary on a law firms website then chaptgpt.

I paid over $100 for this six months ago and am still delighted with the AI-freeness and non-subscription-ness of this. It's also really comforting to feel secure that my clients' work isn't going to get fed back into the AI, which I worried about even after turning AI "off" in Office 365.
Whoa. If you want to get the non-subscription, non-"A.i." installation of Office 2021, MacWorld has the cheapest deal I've seen - $59.97. Stops getting MS support & security fixes in October 2026, but for now it's a good way to avoid "A.i." and subscriptions! shop.macworld.com/sales/micros...
