A wee glass of port as i do a wee test prior to the RSGB 2m FT8 activity night.
Only have a vertical, but i bought the FT991a so i could have 2m USB in the shack, so i'm going to use it when the opportunity arises!

People obviously make comment about 10m being closed a lot nowadays, honestly though, it's 12m I miss more.
As it is, I'm knackered, drinking port and diddling 15m/40m ft8.

3 shots of Aldis dark rum and marginal ft8 on 12m as the band closes while listening to Kvelertak on YouTube.
What gets you through the day!

I dont know what I'm doing and it probably won't work, but I put the vhf/uhf vertical back up and RS-44 was coming in with some strength on 70cm downlink.
So the duplexer has been pressed into service and now trying for my 1st linear satellite. 2 good passes coming up.
Perhaps I will hear myself👨‍🚀

#hamlib #gpredict

well that's progress, on my new Linux box, i have finally managed to get HamLib installed and working :)

GPredict can now control my FT991a for frequency and Doppler correction :)

I have the 7300 on one side and the FT991a on the other and i feel like a king!

April 14, 2025 at 7:34 AM
Same here 😀
G90, X5102, IC7300, IC705, ID50E, FT5D, FT991A
Der G90 ist ziemlich genial, nur das etwas hohe Rauschen stört.

i got brave and went for it

my FT991a is now on the Linux Mint machine as well as my Xiegu G90

both got separate FLRig profiles and WSJT-x profiles,

shocked at how easy it was :)

next up the additional software i want to
track/doppler correction for sat
SSTV
FLDigi for psk, wefax, olivia etc
May 27, 2025 at 5:46 PM
well that was fun,

reconnected the antennas to my radios and both HF & VHF antennas on the FT991a went High SWR :(

fault was at both plugs ??

replaced and re-soldered both plugs and SWR back to normal

i did try re-soldering the plugs before replacing them with no change

Its probably in the manual, but just noticed that on the ft991a, you can't go higher than 32.999mhz from the 10m band selector and 6m going down stops at 33mhz.
It's not continuous as it is with the 7300. You have to actually change bands.

After nearly a year, I finally have Winlink VARA HF working on my Yaesu FT991a without a signalink!

I think the issue was just not understanding the ports for the radio and the volume levels being too low.

#ARRLFieldDay motivated me to work on this today so mark down Field Day as a success!

Messing about with the hackRF and it's 10mW tx on 2m FM SSTV frequency and then picked up a couple of random ft8 for good measure.
Back to 80m FT4 i go!

I have mint on the 6m machine, win11 on the 7300 machine, this win11 and mint dual boot and raspberry pi for the ft991a - i am largely agnostic when it comes to OS. As long as it runs the software i need.
November 17, 2025 at 8:35 PM
yep i have a G90, X6100 and a FT991a

the G90 is pretty bullet proof
