Oh hi, this was my area of research way back when! The short answer is that, in general, RCV is ~strictly better than FTFP, and it's very difficult to imagine a situation where multiple challengers to the left do worse in RCV than they would with FTFP.

I'm certainly not defending FTFP. We desperately need reform (4-7 seat STV is my preference). Simply saying that what happened in 2024 and will most likely happen in 2029 is off the scale on crapness compared to any previous election.

Dude I'm not going to educate you on basic political science in a social media feed but if you oppose evil then *you wield your vote effectively to reduce it*, and in an FTFP system there is exactly one (1) way to do that, usually.

Another problem of the FTFP system is that niche parties get to promise any old nonsense because there is zero chance they’ll ever have to form part of a government that’ll need to try to deliver them. And yet they get to distort reality for policies of potential governing parties!
