Also, yes, the Wildcat was good - the two things can be true at the same time.

Read my book (currently working on Wildcat title for same publisher) www.crowood.com/book/fairey-...
Fairey Fulmar | The Crowood Press
The remarkable story of how a make-do fighter proved itself indispensable in the harshest theatres of war Fairey Fulmar –The Fleet Air Arm’s Unlikely Hero charts, for the first time, the full history ...

The Fulmar (in service at sea with the RN one+ year before the F4F) did the biz when it mattered. Check out @navalairhistory.com's recent book on it.

Yes, this is why I dislike the Top Trumps method of assessing military aircraft. The Fulmar was too slow but a combination of decent endurance combined with relatively sophisticated radar and fighter direction meant it was effective when and where it needed to be (the Med in 1941)…

and fulmars. However, the branch connecting the human case with its closest relatives (ringed seals and a fulmar in Nunavut, Canada) are over a year long, suggesting significant unsampled transmission prior to the human spillover.

Nah, the Wildcat was OK, particularly the FM-1 variants. Yeah, the F4F wasn't as good as the Zero, but US pilots flying it still managed around a 1-1 kill ratio against the Zero iirc.

Now the Fulmar, that was a turd with wings. I mean an actual service ceiling of maybe 14-16,000 feet. Ha!

I familiar with the Fulmar. There was a reason the RN switched to F4Fs/FM-1, Corsairs, & Hellcats asap.

if #BirdoftheDay is #BrownBirds, I'm in luck, because all I saw yesterday on the Pacific Ocean was brown birds. Here's a Northern Fulmar, the most abundant tubenose we saw all trip.

Just Google it. You might learn something. Basically, the gas from jackdaw gets piped to the Shearwater platform where it's processed, then goes through the fulmar gas line to mainland UK (Scotland), then into the uk gas grid. You could have found this out.

Lovely fulmars determinedly resuming position at their nest sites today, despite Brownsman now being a world of seal-colony chaos! #fulmar #seabirdersaturday #sealpup
