I have! It was fantastic! Far more development for the Gamilons, with a more rounded out ensemble for the Yamato crew. Sadly Wildstar/Kodai's charcter arc gets flattened a bit (5th episode of the original is amazing television even today!).

You really need to. It is amazing! They basically took the original as a rough draft and made a final draft out of it. Cut out padding, used the reclaimed time to develop both Yamato characters and the Gamilons more, etc. And they kept the original (well, re-recorded) music and sound FX! 1/

Finally going to ask my translation question, although I expect @zackdavisson.com knows the answer. This has been bugging me for years now. In the first episode of Yamato, the Gamilons demand surrender. Okita responds something like Baka-mei, a phrase i think is in the stupid category...
