Single most difficult snake in the house to get photos of.
Maya shed and so is at peak color, but I got musked on and took 10 minutes to sort of get her to sit long enough to photo.

Can you find the spider in these photos? The #GarterSnake was so still, the spider walked all over it's face without it even flinching. The snake has a wound on it's lower lip, a whole segment missing (that's a hint for one of the photos)

I guess the garter #snakes are out in abundance to stock up on as much food as possible before the winter? This pair was holding as still as possible, hoping I would not see them. I took this video, then left them alone quickly.

A ~4" Northern Leopard Frog with a base skin color of bright green, marked with dark brown oval spots on the back and legs. Each dark spot is surrounded by a thin, pale green border. There's a white stripe along the upper jaw, and light creamy ridges down the sides of the back, and dark eyes with bronze lids. This frog was sitting in a mix of gray gravel, brown dirt, and green weeds at the corner of a walking trail at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, Massachusetts.

Mel & I spent Labor Day kayaking at a fav state park, & had some great #nature encounters. Highlights were a milksnake, a small gartersnake, cricket frogs, & a box turtle. We found the box turtle swimming across the steam - 1st time I’ve seen one doing that in the wild!

Fall rain brings #slugs.
Slugs bring the Northwestern #GarterSnake.
Slugs are a primary component of their diet.
Provide shelter (large pieces of bark, stumps, rock walls, large rocks) for the snakes so they can rest and feast before hibernation in Oct/Nov.
