My kids are tech-privileged. They're playing Super Mario 64 on the steamdeck via #RetroArch, and wanted to play Kirby. While they played, I SSHed onto the Steamdeck, and #GitAnnex get'ed the Kirby ROM from my fileserver. #techdad

Updated #forgejoaneksajo (:forgejo: #forgejo with :gitannex: #gitannex support) to the latest v9.0.2 base. Just some juggling of hashes in my :nixos: #nixos config.

Updated #forgejoaneksajo (:forgejo: #forgejo with :gitannex: #gitannex support) to the latest v9.0.2 base. Just some juggling of hashes in my :nixos: #nixos config.

Import cards into holding directories; sort into rough events with YYYY-MM-DD directory name prefixes. Add to #gitannex, do backups etc from there
Use #git annex to then delete photos from import directories and SD cards with the knowledge of having at least three known-good copies on various media

For several days now my DSL Internet at home is broken (because I moved the cabinet?), so my #homelab and its web infrastructure is unavailable - even locally because of CSRF and https annoyances. 🙄

And apparently :gitannex: #gitannex can't do importtree-only remotes¹ (without exporttree), you one really has to reimplement the rsync logic when something needs to be copied and then install the file manually...

Heyy #gitannex quality people, do you have a quality tutorial to follow for archiving photographs? I am not satisfied with just creating a repo on an external drive because then I can't easily browse the archived photographs, and I am struggling to make an exported directory repo...

OK! I think I'm starting to get th hang of #gitannex . Got a few scary moments with losing (?) some files at the beginning but if I don't have the assistant running in the background to eagerly mess with my repo without me noticing it goes well. :)

That's how I ended up using #GitAnnex + 3-2-1 rule for non-coding files. Backups are good, but with git-annex, it's another level - you can not only distribute your files between storages, but also you can sync file moves, and more.
