turns out the rsync developers are not, in fact, "vibe fucking up" rsync

turns out the rsync developers are not, in fact, "vibe fucking up" rsync

This is embarrassing, but TIL that if copying a large folder from one external drive to another, I should use rsync, not Mac OS Finder.
I thought of rsync as a tool for moving data to/from the cluster, but omg locally it's an order of magnitude faster as well as more stable.

the original issue is antisocial and shitty, but imo this specific situation is one where the author has 100% been fucking up the software with lazy vibe-coded bullshit.
i would personally not use upstream rsync anymore, openrsync & gokrazy/rsync seem much more responsibly maintained.

TIL you can make it so that a client connecting with a specific SSH key can only run a single, specified command when connecting.
Am using this to make sure when I’m backing up stuff from my VPSs with rsync, the key can only do rsync.
