#glassMaking
On day two we were able to visit the Jerpoint Glassmaking Studio to watch the fascinating process of glass blowing. The trip has both inspired and informed our participants and their fabulous work here at LYCS, so keep an eye out for our upcoming exhibition early 2027! @NEICDublin

📰 Interesting turn! 🤔 I just read about a glassmaker in Syria who works through extreme heat to create beautiful glass pieces. It's fascinating how artisans push their limits in such conditions! What do you think drives their passion? 🔥 #Syria #glassmaking #artisanship

Voting for quartz. On my work commute to Warm Springs Natural Area I cross the UP “Mead Lake” line to Overton, Nevada where the Simplot mine has been producing high grade quartz sand for glassmaking at a factory near LA. The hopper cars presumably get excellent graffiti near LA and not Overton.

How has so much rare and unusual Roman glass been found in the Rhinelands? Maybe there was a unique glassmaking culture here that emerged in the later years of the empire?

In the late Middle Ages, it was extracted from the Habsburg silver mines in Joachimsthal, Bohemia (now Jáchymov in the Czech Republic), and used as a coloring agent in the local glassmaking industry.
But the discovery of the element is credited to German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth in 1789.
