Devastating to see these gorse fires destroying our countryside. This fire has been blazing all day, with a front of three miles according to the BBC. Glenshane, Co Derry. The video really doesn’t show just how bad this is ☹️

This is the evidence given by Joseph Mahon at the trial of Soldier F who wa found not guilty today. He was 16 when he was shot on Bloody Sunday, read it and digest the reality of British Justice when the victims aren’t classed as fully human
"Q. Now, as you were lying on the ground did you come to see any of the soldiers or any soldier? A. I seen one walking across the square from the entrance where they came in walking towards, diagonally across the square towards where we were lying. Q. .. could you tell whether it was the first soldier? A. It was the first soldier came in. The thing that suit out the must was his rect of em a emerent pattern, ... more like a smock, a smock combat jacket and it was ... Q. And what happened when he approached? A. He walked past me and Mr McKinney and before he did come across I heard a voice, a woman calling 'Lie still, pretend you're dead. I must have moved, I didn't know I was shot at the time, I still thought it was a rubber bullet for I was going to try and get up and run and I lay and let on I was dead. And he walked, he walked past us ... Mr Wray moved and as he approached Mr Wray he fired two shots into him ... (then) went under the walkway and I don't know where he went then ... he came back ... leaned against the wall and took the helmet off and rubbed the back of his, rubbed his forehead with his hand. (And said). 'I've got another one Dave.' ... (He had) blond hair ... there was a lot of shouting behind me 'We're pulling out Dave.'"

My heart besieged by anger, my mind a gap of danger. I walked among their old haunts. the home ground where they bled; And in the dirt lay justice like an acorn in the winter Till its oak would sprout in Derry where the thirteen men lay dead. This is a poem on ‘Bloody Sunday’, an incident on 30 January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland. Twenty-six unarmed civil rights protesters and bystanders are shot by soldiers of the British Army. The incident occurs during a Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association march; the soldiers involved are the First Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (1 Para). Thirteen males, seven of whom are teenagers, die immediately or soon after, while the death of another man four and a half months later is attributed to the injuries he received on that day.

'The Fire Service responded to 26 reports of gorse fires overnight on Saturday, following a spate of wildfires over the last week.

One of the more significant fires was in the Glenshane Road area of Maghera, where dozens of firefighters and 10 appliances attended.'

Broadly speaking the closer you get to the Bann and the North Coast the more Protestant it is, whilst the closer you get to the Glenshane Pass the more Catholic it is - Dungiven is considerably more Catholic than the Falls Road, for example.

Latest high resolution snow depth charts up to 6pm Monday showing very little for Ireland but parts of Ulster could well see some lying snow. The next few updates as low pressure pulls away Monday evening could be more interesting.
